Skin Care Routine 2018

Hey Everyone! I hope this post finds you all well and I hope you’ve had a good weekend?

I thought for this week’s post id change it up a little and tell you all about my Skin Care Routine 2018. I’ve always loved skin care and makeup, I’m that kind of girl.. I’m not the girl whose obsessed with shoes of clothes. I’m the kind of girl who loves trying out new skin care.. as we all know.. I LOVE a pamper night!

Definitely since my recent cold virus (yuck!) I’ve noticed my skin to have changed! My skin type is usually combination. My T-Zone is oily and the other parts are a mixture of dry and normal.

Since going Vegan/Plant based I’ve definitely notice that my skin is a lot clearer which is great, however I also drink a lot of water too (that’s definitely the secret to good skin!)

But recently my skin was getting dryer and I also noticed some spots appearing. So I thought I’d do my research and find something to help with this!

*I just wanted to say that this post isn’t sponsored and a disclaimer. I know I use a lot of products but I find that they work for me and I like to try and keep most of my skin care products natural, free from parabens and other nasties.*

Let’s start with – Make Up Removal

Coconut Oil

I’ve been using Coconut Oil to remove my makeup for the past month and honestly it’s sooo good! I feel like it’s a staple you can grab anywhere (I got this from Boots of all places!)

I also feel like it’s a natural product and doesn’t contain anything like parabens etc. And it doesn’t sting my eyes! (YAY!)

This massive tub has been going for the past month and I’m loving using this as a makeup remover.

What I do is get about 1/2tsp amount onto my hands and rub them together, I then apply it to my face using circular motions to remover the makeup from the day. I then use either a muslin cloth/towel or flannel with warm water to remover the excess.

And voila your makeup is removed… However my cleansing doesn’t finish there in the evenings.

I’m going to talk about my Morning and Night Skin Care Routine.

Morning Skin Care

So.. the main products that I’ve fallen back in love with are the products by a company called Avene. It’s a French company who specialise in natural skin especially for people who have sensitive skin.

They have ranges to suit all skin types as well, and I’m pretty sure they don’t contain any nasties like parabens etc.

I used to use their range when I was going through a breakout of acne a couple of years ago and honestly and can whole heartedly say that it clear my skin up lovely!

Now that my skin has turned more dry since the cold whether and getting sick, I’ve changed things up a little.

Cleansing

For cleansing I use the Avene gel cleanser it doesn’t contain soap and you can use this for you body as well! My skin doesn’t feel dry or tight when I use it, it just feels clean! (Funnily enough!)

I put about a penny size amount into my hand, then using warm water I partner it up until it forms a foam like consistency and then apply all over my face and neck.

Toning

For face toner I use the Avene Cleanance range (as I’ve said I have Oily Combination but going through a dry spell at the moment) and this toner is lovely! It’s cooling and nice to be applied. I mainly use this on my T- zone and around my chin/neck using 2 cotton pads.

For my eyes, as they’ve been really delicate and dry lately, I’ve been using the Liz Earle Eye Bright and I apply this to 2 cotton pads and just hold them on my eyes for a few seconds and then just wipe around my eyes gently.

It’s very cooling and soothing and since I’ve been using this plus something else, it’s really help combat have the dryness and irritation I was experiencing.

Serum

For my morning serum I use this beauty! Again by Avene the Cleanance range for acne prone skin. Again I mainly apply this to my T-Zone and neck, which is where I suffer with acne sometimes. I use a very small amount as it goes a long way!

Sun Protection

I’m going to say it! I’ve only just started using sun protection within my skin care! I’ve been reading a lot about sun protection and being that my skin tone is quite pale, I should take more care.

I got this Sun Protection from Avene and again it’s in the Cleanance range so it won’t and doesn’t make my skin oily so I apply this everywhere, including my neck every morning.

Day Cream

Lol can you see a trend yet!? Okay I kind of got the Avene range lol.. but this day cream is lovely.. it feels really hydrating and doesn’t leave my skin too oily. I just use this in the morning and mainly on my cheeks.

Now…

Evening Skin Care Routine

So.. the cleansing part is still the same, I use the same product as the morning.

Serum

So this serum from Avene I use mainly on my T-Zone and chin area. I love these products purely because they don’t irritate my skin. I haven’t noticed anything at the moment but it’s only because I haven’t been using it long enough yet.

I then apply this serum mainly on my cheeks. I love No.7 beauty products and used to use them, however some of them made my skin feel a little more oily than the Avene so I’m sticking mainly to that.

Night cream

Now this.. this is something I’ve not tried before and I can say that it’s AMAZING!! I went to work last week with my skin feeling really tight, sore and dry. She told me about the above cream and said it really helped her and omg was she right!?! It’s amazing! And I love it!

It’s really helped with my skin and I use it every night. I also use it on my hands and feet too ☺️

And the final product that I use morning and night is the Avene eye contour cream. I use this around the delicate skin around my eyes.. using my ring fingers to gently massage it in. I’ve definitely noticed that my eyes don’t feel as dry or sore as they did before which is great 😊

Surviving a cold W/ MS

Hey Everyone! How are you all doing!? Let me know in the comments sections as always ☺️

Well from the title of this post I am battling with a…. COLD!!! I did pretty well going through the whole of Christmas and January w/out getting sick but then… Boom! February i get landed with it! (The joys of working with the general public who come and see you when they’re sick… Stay at home!!)

So.. I started coming down with something last Sunday, I felt really fatigued and my glands were slightly swollen and I just felt quite run down. By Tuesday my sinuses were inflamed and my nose was running like Niagara falls!!

I’m so grateful and thankful that I’m only work 4 days a week, 4 hours a day at the moment.. that was manageable on Monday, but Tuesday I was sent home cause I must of looked slightly rough! And I’ve pretty much been listening to my body and rest ever since! I booked Friday off work as a holiday and went in yesterday which was okay ☺️

In this blog post I’m going to talk you through my tips on surviving a cold whilst managing your chronic illness (mine being Multiple Sclerosis)

1) Rest, Rest and more rest!

Your body recovers so much quicker if you can sleep it off.. or just resting and not doing too much. Your body is trying to fight off this virus/infection so by you pushing yourself to do more, is only going to make you feel worse.

2) Getting some Fresh Air

Now I know I just said that you need to rest and give your body time to heal, but getting some fresh air might just make you feel a little more human ☺️. I like to have a little walk around my garden or sit on the bench taking in some fresh air and it does help my sinuses to clear a little.

3) Drink plenty of fluids

Since having this cold all I’ve been drinking water, herbal teas and fresh juice and smoothies.. making sure I add lots of good wholesome goodies to my smoothies 😊

4) Taking the right meds to make you feel better

So.. I don’t really like taking a lot of medication, purely because I feel that there has to be a more natural way to cure illnesses (not all illnesses, but some) social haven’t been taking many “drugs” but I have been keeping up with all my vitamins. The vitamins that I take everyday is, D3, Magnesium, B12 and Flaxseed oil tablets.

Whilst I’ve been poorly, I was taking Sudafed, however I didn’t react very well to it, so I’ve just gone back to Ibuprofen, paracetamol, Olbas Oil and all the other cold goodies lol.

5) Eat Well

When we are sick we rarely find the passion to cook a lavish super healthy meal… I’m not saying to do that, but instead of heading to the junk when you’re feeling poorly, treat keeping up with the fruit and veg. I have a lot of homemade smoothies which I pack with lots of spinach, kale etc. I have had a couple of times where George and I have just indulged in something delicious (Mexican take away valentine’s night) but 90% of the time I’m eating healthy good foods!

Some spices that I absolutely love and take everyday is:- turmeric, cinnamon and ginger. These are great and I’ve read that they are a good anti-inflammatory spice.

6) Do something you enjoy!

When I’m poorly I love watching Netflix… However I also try and practice in “Self-Care” once a day! Whether that be having a lovely bath, painting my nails or giving myself a facial.. or even writing in my Bullet Journal (I got a new one yesterday lol!) Doing something that you enjoy everyday will make you feel a little bit happier when you’re not feeling 100%

7) Wear your comfy clothes!

And finally… Wearing something super cozy and comfy! I also go to my super comfy joggers and a lovely warm jumper.. I got the jumper from Primark and it’s sooo cozy! I also have these gorgeous slipper socks that I got for Christmas, which are perfect for keeping my feet lovely and warm! It’s all about the comfies when you’re poorly!

And that my lovelies is the end of “Surviving a cold W/ MS” I hope some of you have found this useful! I was originally going to film a YouTube video on this topic… But…. I’ve felt too rough to do that 🀣🀣 oh the irony!

Multiple Sclerosis & My Bullet Journal

January 2017… The start of my very first Bullet Journal. A very good friend of mine told me briefly about the Bullet Journal and how it worked and also told me to check out Ryder Carroll’s YouTube video explaining how it works.

At first when she told me about it, I thought it was something you do on your phone, however when she proceeded to show me pictures of hers I realised that this was definitely something for me to pursue!

I have Multiple Sclerosis which is a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system. To most people we look perfectly well and normal because this illness is also invisible! We have to deal with a variety of symptoms ranging from chronic fatigue to severe pain without it showing on the outside — as you can imagine it’s rather frustrating.

I decided to start a Bullet Journal to help keep myself positive and also to track symptoms, meal plan and just organise my life a little better. I love being organised and I’ve found my Bullet Journal to help so much with this! Ive also found it to be a release from reality in a way too, just somewhere to escape! I’m a creative person and I could doodle or plan away in my Bullet Journal for hours!

I started out in a dotted grid Journal which I found in my local stationary shop. It was in the sale so I’m not sure which kind it was, however on my 27th birthday May 2017 I got my first Leuchtturm 1917 dotted grid notebook to which I was over the moon about! It was a deep pink and I just simply loved it! The Leuchtturm 1917 dotted grid note books are definitely my favourite (I just want every colour now!)

I also got a vast collection of different coloured pens. From Staedtler to TomBow pens, so once I’d got everything I wanted I set off on my Bullet Journal journey 😊

I primarily use my Bullet Journal for everyday planning. Grocery lists, Meal Plans, daily tasks, monthly tracker and gratitude logs — I was heavily inspired by BoHo Berry (Kara) when creating my Bullet Journal continue now to watch her videos.

Once I’d got the hang of what I was doing, I started doing more spreads to help me manage my condition and to keep my positive attitude. I honestly feel like the Bullet Journal has helped me remain positive in my situation, and I’ve got lots of pretty stationary out of it too hehe! Writing things down, planning and reducing stress has really helped me cope with this!

And now as we move into 2018, I’m still loving my Bullet Journal and I shall continue to love it forever more! I would love to thank you Ryder for creating this method in the first place and I’d also like to thank Kara from BoHo Berry for just the beautifully designed Bullet Journals, you’ve both really helped me manage and live with my chronic illness. Multiple Sclerosis!

Behind The Illness (I’m stronger than my MS)

Hey there everyone!? How are you all doing? I have finally sucom to this cold lurgy that’s going around.. I put up a pretty good fight and I don’t think it’s as bad as what I used to get (since being plant based/vegan it’s definitely not as bad) I’ve been pumping my body with lots of goodness — but that’s another blog post.. I intend of writing how I control a cold with MS so stay tuned!

Recently the lovely Natalie from Surviving Life’s Hurdles tagged me in her blog post and twitter link to take part in this, which is love to do.

I do post about MS from time to time on here, however I like to also keep my posts upbeat and positive (believe me if I was having a bad day and wanted to write about it then I would, but I just like to keep things positive not only for myself but for others too)

I know I’m still the same person that I was before the illness, however if anything this illness has made me grow into a person who:- appreciates the little things, is grateful for one thing every day, never takes things for granted, looking at caring for my body with food and nutrients and finally LISTENING to my body… I know a lot of us don’t do this and I believe that it’s so important to listen to your body especially when you’re living with a chronic illness.

So… Let’s get into these fab questions that are in this tag.. once I’ve completed mine, I’ll tag some of my lovely bloggers to have a go too 😊

Four Places I’ve Lived

Newark-On-Trent – this is where I grew up!

Peterborough – I moved here with my mum and sister when I was four

March – My first time moving out of my mum’s house into my partner’s house was very exciting

Peterborough – We are now back in Peterborough, renting our own house together 😊

Four Places I’ve Worked

Pets At Home – This was my first proper job since school/college

Westgate House Perfumery – I enjoyed this job, working with people and meeting new people/friends too, however this was only part time and I needed a full time job.

Specsavers Opticians – This was my first full time job. I met lots of new and life long friends here including my future husband too.. it was a great place to work, however unfortunately time did run its course.

Westgate Optical – How funny would it be if I told you that I’m back at the same place where I was a perfumery assistant!?! Only this time working in the Optical Department! It’s such a wonderful Opticians! I’ve been here now almost 3 years, which means I’ve been in Optics for almost 7 years!!! How crazy is that (well it is for me lol)

Four Favourite Hobbies

Cooking – I love cooking and discovering new recipes! I’m always on Pinterest and YouTube looking up all the different vegan recipes to try! 😊

Bullet Journalling – I’ve been a solid Bullet Journaller for the past year and absolutely LOVE it! It’s so calming and relaxing and really takes me away from reality for a while.

Watching YouTube – Whether it be Beauty videos, Hack videos or lifestyle.. again YouTube really takes me away and allows me to relax from everything else.

Spending time with family and friends – While I was off work going through my last relapse it just made me realise how much I missed my friends at work! Being stuck inside your home for a considerable time has this affect, and all I can say is that I’m so grateful to a) be back at work for a skittle bit and b) that my friends didn’t forget about me and came to visit me often whilst I was poorly.

Four things I like to watch

YouTube Videos – like I’ve mentioned above, I love the variation of Youtube and find it really takes me away for a bit and allows me to relax.

Light Hearted TV Shows – This year George and I have been loving RuPauls Drag race on Netflix! It’s serious but easy for us to watch and makes us laugh! It’s great, if you’re feeling low or down, just put that on! I’ve also been loving a new show called Queer Eye on Netflix which is great too, and then can’t forget Riverdale!

Horror Movies! – My friend, sister and I love getting together and watching a good horror film! We mainly like supernatural horror films as opposed to gore… Not really a gore fan!

Light Hearted Movies – Recently my sister told me about a film called “The Hundred Foot Journey” it’s such a wonderful film and so lovely to watch! I’m not going to talk about it, just trust me.. if you like love films and food then you’ll love this one!

Four things I like to read

Lovely, light Hearted books – there’s a couple of books that I’ve read in which I would read over and over again! One of them was “A street cat named Bob” this book had me reading every single night! I loved the story of how life can really be for some people. The other was called “A cat called Alfie” (see the trend going here!?! πŸ˜‚ Yes anything to do with animals or cats then I love to read!

Cheesy drama magazines – Now I don’t buy these very often but when I doz I just love flicking through the gossip columns lol

Harry Potter!! – Yes… I loved reading some of the Harry Potters and then for the last couple of books I switched to Audio instead 😊

Four Places I’ve visited

Portugal – This was my first foreign holiday when I was younger and living at home with my parents. It was great and I loved it 😊 especially in the mornings, my sister and I would have a nice little walk down to the bakery to get fresh goodies for lunch!

Greece – This was the second place I visited, although this was with my ex boyfriend. Although Greece was a beautiful country I think I would of enjoyed a little more exploring around. The food was delicious!

Scotland – Another family trip a couple of years ago. We are all around Scotland and I created a little journal of all the places we visited. It’s such a beautiful country.

London – George and I love going to London when we can. Whether it’s to see friends or for a nice little trip just the two of us. I love going here with George πŸ’–

Four things I love to eat.

I have to write a full little part about food. I LOVE food! If it’s Vegan, packed with deliciousness and nutritious then I’ll eat it!

I don’t really have four specific types of food that I like to eat because I love it all! πŸ˜‚ I love cooking too and creating new and exciting recipes.

Four Favourite drinks

Homemade smoothies – I love making and creating smoothies! I always make sure it’s jam packed with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. My favourites are my chocolate supreme and green monster lol.

Herbal Teas – I’ve been loving these lately. Especially camomile, green tea, lemon and ginger and a new edition is this turmeric tea!

A normal cup of tea! – Being English, a lot of us can’t beat a “normal” English breakfast tea! It’s what we do best! I love this with a little almond milk, it’s just delicious!

A cheeky glass of Prosecco – I don’t drink a lot now because I found that it made my Ms symptoms worse, so when it’s a special occasion then a glass of prosecco is a must hehe!

Four Places I’d like to Visit

New York – I have always wanted to go here! Ever since I watched Sex and The city box set lol! I just want to visit Central Park and eat a Pretzel on a side walk! And see all the lights!

Canada – George and I have always wanted to visit Canada. There’s just something about Toronto etc that I’d love to see. Plus it’s where they make maple Syrup!

Hong Kong – Now this one is more for George! He’d love to go for the tech side of things. But I’d still be interested in it all.. and let’s not forget the Chinese authentic cuisine.

Australia – Now this is my too place to visit! One day I will go there! Everyone just send so healthy and healthy food is a trend there.. I’d love to just see what it’s all about. My friend moved there a couple of years ago and the moments when she messages me saying she’s walking along the beach after work… I’d love that!

Disney World – okay… I HAD to add another place that I’d love to visit, because this has been my wish ever since I was a little girl and one day I WILL go! Lol

Adapting

I love this prompt and I think the biggest thing that I’ve adapted to this month is getting back into a routine at work. It’s almost been a month since I went back to work 4 days a week 4 hours a day to begin with. I feel that I have adapted to this really well, I’m not feeling as tired all the time because I have that extra day off to rest and recover and I’m also finding that I’m able to do more of the things that I love… Finally getting a “work life balance”

Practicing

Something new that I am practising (trying to lol) is minimalism. Now I’m not a super minimalist but getting rid of things that don’t serve a purpose and keeping my house tidy is definitely rewarding and eases my mind. Walking through the door from work and seeing my living space decluttered and tidy makes me instantly feel relaxed.. so I’m going to continue practising this. Don’t worry I won’t go mad and get rid of everything lol.

Realising

Realising that my new motto for the year “Not My Problem” is actually working is also really helping my mindset. Changing my mindset and becoming more positive had definitely been a lovely realisation and it makes loving life so much easier. Not involving myself in other people’s dramas or not letting what people say to me affect me for days or even weeks is definitely been a pleasant experience.

Celebrating

So I know a lot of you know that myself and my best friend George are getting married next year and planning our wedding. The funny thing is we’ve pretty much got everything sorted already. We’ve known what we’ve wanted for a few years now, so planning has been relatively easy. If anyone would like to see a wedding planning section on my blog, do let me know 😊 however this month we are also celebrating being together for 7 years!! I don’t know where the time has gone!?! He really has been truly amazing to me and I feel like our love is growing every single day!

Inviting

I’ve been inviting more positivity into my life over the last couple of months. Especially this month as I’ve gone through a couple of extra stressful experiences lol.. but instead of letting them affect me I’ve been much better at turning situations around and inviting the positive into my life! I also follow positive accounts on Instagram and watch Motivational Speeches on YouTube everyday.. you just type in the search engine of YouTube “Motivational Speeches” and loads come up.

What I Eat In A Day

Hey Everyone 😊 I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend and ready for the week ahead?

Yesterday I filmed my first proper YouTube video (in a while) about what I eat in a day as a Vegan.

I decided to go vegan for health reasons and to see if it made a difference to my MS. I have thoroughly enjoyed this lifestyle change and have discovered so many delicious new recipes.

So.. let’s get into the recipes 😊

Breakfast

Chocolate Pancakes with raspberry sauce

I got this recipe originally from Niomi Smart’s recipe book “Eat Smart” however I have recently adjusted it to suit me and here it is.

1 cup plain flour

1 cup Almond milk

1 tbsp cocao powder

1tsp ginger powder

1tsp cinnamon powder

Blend this in a blender until it forms your pancake batter

1 Cup Raspberries

1/2 lemon juice

1tbsp maple syrup

1/4 cup water

You can add maple syrup at the end to sweeten it if you wish 😊

Lunch

Quinoa & Tofu Salad bowl

1 Cup Quinoa

2 Cups Water

Cauldron seasoned tofu

Yellow Bell Pepper

Coconut oil

2 handfuls kale

Chick peas

Mild curry powder

Avocado

Tomatoes

Cucumber

Method

Start by rinsing your quinoa to get rid of that bitter taste. Then once you’ve put it in the pan with 2 cups of water, bring it to the boil and then leave it for around 10-15 mins to cook through (it might resemble cous cous once it’s ready)

With the chick peas put them into a saucepan with 1tsp coconut oil and 1tsp mild curry powder cook them for about 10 mins also.

Put two handfuls of kale into another saucepan with another tsp coconut oil and allow that to wilt down. Once that’s done remove it from the pan and put the chopped pepper in it to cook off in the oil residue.

Once the main things are cooked, assemble the rest of the ingredients (cucumber, avocado, tomato and olives)

Dinner

Stuffed courgettes with Quorn mince

Now this is the only meal that isn’t completely vegan (the Quorn mince contained an egg white) but a lovely subscriber on my channel recommended a vegan mock mince so I’ll try that next time.

Quorn mince (one bag) or Mock Mince Vegan

1 tin passatta or chopped tomatoes

1/2 onion

Sweet corn

Garlic powder

Paprika

1/4 cup BBQ sauce

3/4 courgettes cut in half and filling removed.

Broccoli

Peas

Method

Cook the onions in a pan to begin with until they are caramelised – (you can do this using water)

Then add the mince, tinned tomatoes/passatta, garlic powder, sweet corn, garlic powder, paprika and BBQ sauce.

Once that’s cooked, fill the hollow courgettes and sprinkle some nutritional yeast on top and bake in the over for 20-30 mins on gas Mark 6.
